About this role

The Psychiatric Medical Director will provide supervision of all Facility Psychiatrists and management and coordination of a Clinical Performance Enhancement Program for all psychiatry, clinical nurse specialist and psychology staff.

What you bring to the table


  • Graduate from an accredited Medical School.


  • At least five years of progressively responsible management experience providing psychiatric health services of similar scope and complexity.
  • Experience in correctional psychiatric care is preferred.


  • Current license to practice psychiatry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Current DEA license.

What you will do

  • Oversees recruitment, selection and retention of psychiatrists.
  • Manages psychiatry provider on-site and on-call schedule.
  • Participates in specific case conferences for special needs patients regarding mental health needs, housing placement, and release planning.
  • Organizes a training conference series to address the special needs of the population.
  • Establishes evidence-based guidelines and clinical pathways for mental health management including detailed documentation standards.
  • Coordinates a Clinical Performance Enhancement Program (peer review).
  • Attends all contractually required meetings.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives required by the Contract.
  • Serves as the Co-Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee;
  • Participates in formulary design and management.
  • Ensures compliance with the requirements of G.L. c. 123, § 21, 103 DOC 651 and all applicable settlement agreements.
  • Ensures compliance with all ACA standards, Commonwealth statutes, and applicable DOC regulations and policies.
  • Respects the dignity and confidentiality of patients.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
  • Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
  • Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
  • Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
  • Post orders, if applicable, per site contract.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
