About this role

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist has overall responsibility of assisting an individual who has a psychiatric disability in the process of restoration of community functioning and well-being. This position seeks to effect changes in a person's environment and in a person's ability to deal with his/her environment, so as to facilitate improvement in symptoms or personal distress. These services are combined with independent living and social skills training, vocational rehabilitation, social support and network enhancement, and access to leisure activities. Activities selected will focus on challenging stigma and prejudice to enable social inclusion, on working collaboratively in order to empower clients, and sometimes on a goal of full psychosocial recovery. They focus on helping individuals develop skills and access resources needed to increase their capacity to be successful and satisfied in the living, working, learning, and social environments of their choice.


In addition, the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist works with clients, their families, conservators, internal and external stakeholders to address concerns or special needs that may arise during their course of treatment within the facility. The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist works directly with various members of the healthcare team, facility departments, and administration to solve problems that client, families, conservators, internal and external stakeholders may have with the goal of facilitating a positive client experience during their time at the facility. The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist Support Liaison acts as a direct care staff member to bring about the most effective treatment and positive experience for the clients.
The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist ensures compliance with department protocols, policies, guidelines, and facility standards, and assists with the implementation of daily operations, activities, and clinical support of the clients.

What you bring to the table

Education:

  • Minimum, all program staff shall have graduated from high school or possess a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) (required).
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Sciences, or related field may be substituted for the two (2) years of full– time work experience or its part–time equivalent. (or graduating within 3 months) (preferred).
  • Successful candidates may be given credit for additional experience in lieu of an education. This exchange is assessed on an individual basis and may be achieved through additional, demonstrated experience in the fields of counseling, psychology, nursing, social work or closely- related fields or positions at the sole discretion of the hiring manager and/or the Human Resource Department.

Experience:

  • Minimum of (2) two years’ full–time experience, or its part–time equivalent, working in a mental health program serving persons with severe and persistent mental disabilities. Such experience shall be in the direct provision of services to a program’s identified clients or residents. (required) (6) Six months to one year of experience in a long term acute care setting (preferred).
  • Additional qualifying experience: Minimum of three (3) months to six (6) months of qualifying experience as Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform satisfactorily the duties of the position is required.
  • Technically proficient in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing unlicensed program services as validated through facility advancement/testing procedures.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license as the position may require driving company vehicles. (Preferred)
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (required)
  • CPI Certification (provided by the facility within first 90 days of employment). Interest in Crisis Intervention Training Certification and ongoing education preferred (CPI facilitator certification)

What you will do

  • Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist (Level 2) perform all duties expected of employees at the level (1). Individuals assigned as Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist (Level 2) are considered to be at the developmental level and therefore should exhibit more knowledge, skill, and abilities than the level (1).
  • Provide services aimed at reducing symptoms/behaviors associated with a mental health disability.
  • Provide interventions and service to promote the highest possible level of success – socially, self- care, increase positive coping skills - through restoration and maintenance
  • Assist clients in educational, work skills, sobriety or with other issues related to their diagnosis by obtaining skills to live independently or by preventing decompensation or a more restrictive situation.
  • Document identifying client symptoms or behaviors and interventions aimed at assisting client with needs. 
  • Problem solving, support, supervision of clients related to program and social activities
  • Assist clients in gaining and utilizing skills necessary to participate in community reintegration– educational groups, behavior control, social skills, communication skills, ADLs support, successful interpersonal behavior, and coping skills
  • Observe clients, provide support, positive reinforcement Teach and model appropriate social skills.
  • Involvement in the prevention of escalation, crisis intervention, decompensation and all necessary documentation following such events
  • Monitor the safety and security of the treatment environment and take necessary action for client safety
  • Oversight of documentation, including ensuring timely completion, clinical accuracy, and identification of training needs, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly
