Sick-Call Nurse

Our Sick-Call Nurse is responsible for the patient sick-call process at the facility. Assures that patients requesting medical, mental health or dental services are seen within in the sick-call policy procedure timeframes and are referred to specialty providers when medically indicated through the sick call process.

Education:           

• Associate’s or Bachelor's degree from a NLN (National League of Nurses) approved program
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required

Experience:        

• Two (2) or more years of direct work experience preferred
• Must possess competence in the performance of the following services: crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessment, medical nursing care, and psychiatric nursing care
• Ability to work without direct, immediate supervision in performing nursing diagnosis, and be able provide appropriate follow through treatment required

Licenses/Certifications: 

• Current, unrestricted license to practice as Registered Nurse in the state the facility is located required
• Current CPR Certification

1. Reviews and sorts patient sick call requests.
2. Triages of daily sick call request noting emergent and non-emergent request for scheduling.
3. Maintains a log that documents all sick call requests are dated, timed, numbered to ensure facility policy procedure and accreditation expectation timeframes are met for the standard of care.
4. Uses Physician approved nursing protocols for care and treatment.
5. Documents all patient contacts. Maintains confidentiality of medical records.
6. Refers patients to medical provider if medically indicated. Evaluates symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients in the sick call process, charts, and reports problems to management.
7. Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
8. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
9. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
10. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
11. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.
12. Post orders, if applicable, per site contract.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
