Safety Ambassador Coordinator - Hampstead Hospital

The Safety Ambassador Coordinator Hampstead Hospital is an entry-level position that supports the safety and security of the child and adolescent patients and staff within the Hampstead Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility (HHRTF). The Safety Ambassador Coordinator also ensures the safeguarding of the HHRTF building, materials, and equipment against fire, trespassing, theft, and other hazards. Safety Ambassador Coordinators are trained to ensure a safe salutary environment.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Prior work experience with psychiatric patients in a hospital or secure mental health setting preferred, with a focus on patient safety.
• Experience working with adolescents preferred

• None Required

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs the duties and responsibilities of a wide range of safety assignments within the HHRTF as assigned
• Conducts specific safety/security checks at the beginning of each shift, 7 days per week and keeps time logs, turns lights on and off as required, and ensures that doors are properly locked
• Conducts inspections of the facility’s physical plant and interior building areas for elopement risk, hazardous conditions and physical plant/maintenance issues on each shift, 7 days per week
• Performs continuous safety/security rounds of all areas of the interior facility
• Monitors ingress and egress points for staff and patients
• Completes reports pertaining to a variety of subject matters
• Monitors video surveillance of physical plant in accordance with Patient Observation policies
• Coordinates and ensures effective communications with State of New Hampshire Department of Safety and external security
• Notifies State Police or other agencies when assistance is needed
• Interacts with the public when required
• Follows all policies and procedures
• Provides emergency responses, along with clinical and medical members of the treatment team, to address patient safety, which may include calming patients' disruptive and/or violent behaviors or threats of self-harm or harm to others. Acts professionally and as a role model for patients especially during crisis or conflict
• Responds appropriately and effectively to physical and verbal altercations between patients. Employs use of verbal de-escalation techniques to modify or control patients' disruptive behaviors rather than physical force whenever possible.
