How you make a difference

As a Nurse Educator, you will be responsible for developing, reviewing, and implementing training programs to ensure that nursing staff can competently and proficiently provide care to adults with serious and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders, and chronic medical problems. This will involve collaborating with nursing leadership to identify educational needs, designing and delivering training programs, and evaluating the effectiveness of training initiatives. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in nursing education. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements educational programs, including ongoing curriculum needs, to ensure nursing staff function competently and proficiently in meeting the needs of patients with mental illness, substance use disorders, and chronic medical problems. 
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, develops competencies for nursing staff positions, and regularly monitors nursing activities to identify deficiencies and develop teaching plans to address them. 
  • Collaborates with nursing management, Human Resources, and nursing school programs to provide orientation, training, and clinical practice development for nursing staff and students. 
  • Maintains complete and accurate records, assesses staff competencies, and participates in the Performance Improvement program. 
  • Provides in-service and continuing education programs and develops policies and teaching materials that are up-to-date, evidence-based, and meet regulatory requirements. 

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing or other healthcare related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in psychiatric mental health nursing is required, preferably with an additional two to three years of educator experience.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must hold a current license as a Registered Nurse, or qualify for same through reciprocity with another state board of nursing.
