How you make a difference

The Residential Treatment Center (RTC) Competency Trainer is responsible for the education and training component of the competency program, utilizing cognitive remedial or restructuring techniques to teach basic legal concepts and help patients understand their legal situations. This position reports to the Health Services Administrator or Program Manager and ensures adherence to applicable standards, state and federal rules, and regulations. The Competency Trainer is an education specialist or Registered Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (RN/LVN) with teaching experience. 



Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing educational and training components of competency program under the direction of Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed health professional. 
  • Facilitates individual and group training/tutoring sessions with patients, utilizing creative and multimodal formats. 
  • Responsible for documentation of findings in patients' records and adherence to company policies and procedures. 
  • Participates in weekly Treatment Team meetings and works collaboratively with the Sheriff’s Office team. 
  • May assist in the involuntary medication processes, job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff, and orientation and training of new employees. 



Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • RN
  • LVN or teacher certification/licensure (preferred)

Experience

  • Previous correctional/detention facility experience
  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience

Licenses/Certifications

  • RN, LVN, or teacher certification preferred, licensed in the state of employment.
  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
  • Certification in Correctional Competency Training or other training/ teaching certification

Compliance

  • Must obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the course of employment.
  • Must pass background investigation conducted by the Company and/or Facility as a requisite for initial and or continued employment.
  • May be required to undergo reasonable suspicion testing for being under the influence of controlled substances, including prescription, legal, and illegal substances, including marijuana.
  • Must undergo security training and orientation on Facility Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Must follow company and facility policies and procedures.
